From Monday 15th October we will begin the roll out of our new Debit Mastercard.
What is Debit Mastercard?
Debit Mastercard offers an easier way to bank, by linking directly to the credit union current account. Spending on the card is debited directly from the funds you have available.
Our new Debit Mastercard is being introduced for holders of a Gold or Platinum Current Account. It replaces the existing Prepaid Visa Debit Card.
How can I use Debit Mastercard?
Debit Mastercard can be used to make purchases in shops and online wherever Mastercard is accepted.
You can withdraw cash and use other ATM services (£300 daily ATM withdrawal limit). And the card’s contactless feature means you can pay for goods up to the value of £30 with a simple tap.
When will I receive my card?
If you are an existing Gold or Platinum current account holder expect to receive your new card in the next few weeks.
We will begin replacing the Prepaid Visa Debit Cards from the 15th October. You will receive a letter advising you of the card switch by early November at the latest.
Can I start using the new card straight away?
We will write to you about a week before your card is delivered to explain how things will work. You will also receive a 6 digit activation code by SMS. It is important you keep this safe. You will need this to activate the card and retrieve your PIN. Once your card is activated you can start using it straight away.
What shall I do with my Prepaid Visa Card?
After activating your card and using it for the first time we ask that you stop using your prepaid card immediately. Please destroy the card by cutting across the black magnetic strip or through the smartcard chip.
If there are funds remaining in your prepaid card account we will transfer these to your current account. Your prepaid card account will be closed.
How do Contactless payments work?
Contactless lets you pay for transactions up to £30 in value by tapping your card against a card reader. Before using Contactless for the first time you will have to complete at least one transaction by using the card’s Chip and PIN facility.
Contactless payments are widely accepted in shops and can be used to pay for London transport services.
What shall I do if my card is lost or stolen?
If your card is lost or stolen please report it to a LCCU branch or call 020 7561 0679 immediately and wait to speak to a Customer Services Advisor. Please note that calls may be recorded / monitored for security/training purposes.
I have a Bronze / Silver Current Account. Will I receive a card?
To receive the Mastercard Debit Card you need to have a Gold or Platinum Current Account. But don’t worry. From November onwards we will be writing to you to offer you the chance to upgrade your account.
If you don’t want to wait that long get in touch after the 15th October and we will fast-track your application.
I don’t have a current account. How can I get one?
You can apply for a current account at any time. After 15th October, if you open a Gold or Platinum Current Account we will send you a Debit Mastercard.
How much does it cost to get the Debit Mastercard?
The Debit Mastercard is available with the Gold Current Account which costs £5 per month or the Platinum Current Account for £10 per month.
The Bronze (free) and the Silver (£3 per month) Current Accounts do not offer Debit Mastercard.
